Spanish II (full year) The Spanish-Speaking Community Around Us:
Essential Questions: How do I have a conversation in the present and past tense in Spanish? How is the Spanish language and culture evident in the community around us? How do we fit into the Spanish community around us?
Description: After thoroughly reviewing previous concepts, students move forward in this intermediate course in holding conversations with more in-depth, specific vocabulary in Spanish and using present, past tenses to articulate their thoughts. They will discuss sports, health, shopping, movies, newspaper topics, the environment and careers. They will learn about families in Spain, the United States, the Dominican Republic, and Ecuador. Spanish II students will explore the community around them via field trips and guest speakers and presenters in order to discover the Spanish-speaking community around them. They will also plan their Project Term trip to a domestic or international location which has a heavy Latino population and culture.
Prerequisites-Student must have passed Spanish I with a 60% or better at high school level or passed both Spanish 1A and Spanish 1B with an 80% or better as a middle school student.
Scope and Sequence-
Students will learn vocabulary pertaining to the following themes: trips, vacations, sports, health, routines, clothes, shopping, market, legends, stories, past and present, preparing and describing food, ordering meals in a restaurant, making movies, invitations to a premiere, school newspaper, family and relationships, environment and conservation, careers and professions.
Students will learn the following grammar concepts: indirect and direct object pronouns, past tense of irregular verbs (ir, ser, hacer, ver, dar), demonstrative adjectives and pronouns, reflexive verbs, present progressive, commands, present subjunctive, comparatives, superlatives, future tense.
